Time F-l-i-e-s !

They say time stands still for no man. I’d like to suggest a revision to this saying:

“Time stands still for no woman with small children!”

As you can see, my last post was in November after celebrating the kids’ birthdays. Yet today as I sit at my laptop pounding out this post I am a-s-t-o-u-n-d-e-d that the date on the calendar reads June 13th. We've long passed Christmas and New Years, Valentines Day, Mother's Day and Memorial Day and just a couple days ago we celebrated Corey ’s 39th birthday.

Ummmm, where did the time go?

So in order preserve the tiny little portion of my sanity that’s hanging by a thread, I think I’ll just fast forward over the past 6 months and catch everyone up on what’s happening now.

Jayden is 3 ½ now and started t-ball in April, which has been a total kick. He bats left so he hits the ball, drops the bat and runs to 3rd almost every time. It’s hilarious.

He loves doing almost anything that involves being outside, but especially riding his bike and going in search of dinosaur fossils on our “discovery walks" (they may look like sticks and stones to you, but to a 3-yr. old they look an awful lot like dinosaur bones and teeth). He is the friendliest, most outgoing little man I have ever met. Whether we’re walking through the grocery store or playing at the park, he chats up anyone and everyone who will listen (case in point: he stopped a man in Target last night to talk about poop. Nope, not kidding.). And man oh man, is he ever becoming a performer extraordinaire! We moved at the beginning of May and our new backyard has a deck that he quickly claimed as his stage, where he loves putting on a show for anyone who will take the time to watch and listen.

And our little Abbie-girl is now 1 ½ and if there was any question about who runs the household, let me put it to rest for you. OK, not really, but in her mind anyway, she is BOSS, with a capital B! She is not a timid child, that’s for sure, and she gives her big brother a run for his money! She’s cutting 3 teeth at the moment, 2 of them molars, so that’s a j-o-y, but other than that, she’s really a pretty great little girl.

She also loves playing outside, mostly with sidewalk chalk (which almost always ends up somewhere on her face) and while she isn’t a “girly” girl, she does love to carry her little purses around… which are almost always packed with a gun and a teacup. She most certainly does not like bows in her hair or shoes on her feet and while she does love to dance, I think after viewing this clip you’ll agree that her future in the New York City Ballet is questionable at best.

As for the grownup Grants (no comments from the peanut gallery, please), we’re doing our best to manage all life throws our way with grace and a sense of humor. Corey’s doing well in the Real Estate industry and is working lots of long hours, which has been a big adjustment for the kids (OK, and the wife, too). But in this market, we’re just blessed to have work – and anyone who knows Corey knows that this field is perfect for his outgoing personality. As for me, I do my best to balance work, book club, Bible study, small group, laundry, dinner, blog updates (ha!), etc., etc., etc. with being the best wife and mother I can be. Because that's what it's all about, right?

Happy Summer!
